According to deputy state secretary Abel Garamhegyi, the ministry will grant direct financial support, and will also provide support for training and job creation, as the investment will create over 100 new jobs. The two companies also received a tax break for the project. The amounts involved were not disclosed.
Under the joint project, BC is building a factory in Kazincbarcika to produce MDI, a raw material for plastics used by the automotive, construction, refrigeration and garment industries. The plant will have capacity of 100 kt per year, and is expected to produce 80 kt of MDI in its first full year of operations next year. Trial production at the plant is scheduled to commence in September this year.
Linde is building an industrial gas factory for EUR 55 million adjacent to BC's plant, where it will produce 32 million cubic meters of carbon-monoxide, 80 million cubic meters of hydrogen, 48 million cubic meters of nitrogen, 50 million cubic meters of oxygen, and 1.5 million cubic meters of argon, all raw materials for MDI. Test production will start later this month.
BC CEO Laszlo F Kovacs noted that as a result of the new plant, exports will account for close to 90% of the company's total sales revenues, up from the current 82%. BC is the only MDI producer in the central and eastern European region, and it is also the largest producer of PVC and a dominant manufacturer of TDI, a raw material for soft plastic foams used by the automotive and furniture industries.
